REFLECTIVE SPEAKING PRACTICE IN ELT CLASSROOM AT HSC LEVEL IN BANGLADESH: A STUDY ON STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE

The
study was aimed to find out purposes of reflective speaking practice in English
language classroom at higher secondary level in Bangladesh on the perspective
of students’ performance. The experimental study was conducted based on a mixed
method research activity during the period of July 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020
in Matuail Hazi Abdul Latif Bhuiayan University College Demra, Dhaka. A total of
60 students and five teachers were selected as the respondents. Individual
interview sessions were used to collect data through a pre tested structural questionnaire.
The teachers of higher secondary level added their own experimented ideas and
thoughts for conducting this research. During the action research, reflective
speaking practice was arranged for the respondents by the researchers of this
study to collect data based on students’ performance. The researchers also used
a set of tests for assessing students’ performance in English language. The
study revealed that reflective speaking practice in English language classroom
helps to improve students’ communicative ability, power of understanding and
their performance in rethinking, and enhance rapport between the teachers and
the students.
