EFFECT OF PLANTING TIME ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF BROCCOLI (Brassica oleracea L.)
A field experiment was conducted at University Research Field, Patuakhali Science & Technology University, Patuakhali, Bangladesh under the Agro-ecological Zone 13 (Ganges Tidal Floodplain) during the August 2011 to April 2012 to find out the optimum planting time on broccoli production. Ten planting time, viz., (i) August 15, (ii) August 30, (iii) September 15, (iv) September 30, (v) October 15, (vi) October 30, (vii) November 15, (viii) November 30, (ix) December 15 and (x) December 30 were included in the study. All the growth parameters except numbers of leaves per plant were not influenced by planting time. Maximum numbers of leave per plant was recorded in October 15 planting and the minimum in August 15 planting all the treatment were statistically similar in this respects. Yield and yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by the treatments. The maximum yield was recorded in October 15 planting followed by October 30 and November 15. The highest yield (24.17) and the lowest yield (10.8 t/ha) recorded from October 30 and August 15 respectively.
