SHORT-TERM EFFECT OF SALINITY ON SEEDLING MORTALITY OF RICE
An experiment was conducted at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and Plant Physiology Laboratory in the Department of Crop Botany of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh during February, 2010 to find out effective salt concentration to survive rice seedlings. Two rice cultivars viz, Pokkali (salt tolerant) and BRRI dhan29 (salt sensitive) and four different lavel of salt concentrations (0, 50, 100 and 200 mM of NaCl) were used.. Seedlings were grown hydroponically for two weeks. . Result showed that 200 mM NaCl and salt sensitive variety BRRI dhan29 indicated high mortality of seedlings.
