POSTHARVEST CHALLENGES IN POTATO PRODUCTION AT BOGRA AND JOYPURHAT DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

This study was conducted over two years at Bogra and Joypurhat district to find out the postharvest challenges in potato cultivation faced by the farmers. Total 120 respondents from Bogra and Joypurhat district were randomly selected for interview. In order to compare the challenges faced by the farmers, challenge facing index was computed for each aspects. Postharvest challenges were measured in terms of severity. Among the challenges, low market price, lack of marketing facilities and lack of processing facilities were ranked 1^st, 2nd and 3^rd, respectively during the period of 2010-11. To overcome these existing challenges of potato growers, it is necessary to adopt improved technology and giving financial support in potato cultivation.
